FAQs

Edwardian furniture, produced between 1901 and 1910, often draws inspiration from earlier Georgian and Sheraton revivals, favouring lighter proportions, satinwood veneers, and delicate marquetry compared to the heavier Victorian aesthetic.

Craftsmen typically utilised light hardwoods like satinwood and mahogany as a base, enhanced by contrasting fruitwood inlays, ebony stringing, and sometimes brass or wooden gallery rails.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetailing where applicable, natural patination on the timber, genuine hand-painted or inlaid motifs rather than modern printed transfers, and period-appropriate secondary woods in the internal construction.

This piece works well as an accent piece next to a neutral sofa or armchair, allowing the light-coloured wood grain and intricate marquetry to serve as a focal point without overpowering the room.

Keep the wood away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent the veneers from drying out or lifting, and periodically apply a microcrystalline wax to nourish and protect the finish.
