Fine Charles II Yorkshire Oak Settle C1670

A Fine Charles II Carved Oak Yorkshire Settle attributed to the Halifax area, Circa 1670. The back having a lunette carved top rail enriched with punchwork and surmounted by four turned finials, above three horizontal panels of flowing S-scroll motifs issuing stylised pods of crosshatching, and four vertical lozenge carved panels below divided by a cross-hatched rail featuring a long undulating band to the centre. The uprights adorned with split spindle appliqués and flanked by spandrels. The down-swept arms on baluster knopped posts leading to a long planked seat with three baluster turned front legs connected to the rear stiles with peripheral stretchers and having two additional baluster uprights to the front.
