Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian cast iron garden urns are characterised by neoclassical forms, heavy moulding, and decorative relief patterns such as fluting or egg-and-dart trim. Popularised in the nineteenth century, these outdoor vessels feature pedestal bases and wide rims designed to showcase foliage in formal gardens.

These urns were manufactured by pouring molten iron into multi-part sand moulds, allowing complex classical detail and symmetry to be duplicated. Once cooled, the cast sections were assembled, smoothed, and coated with protective paint or bitumen to withstand weathering.

Authentic pieces exhibit heavy weight, subtle casting seam lines, and multi-layered paint accumulation or oxidisation consistent with long-term exposure to the elements. Sharp, crisp relief detailing and classical proportions further distinguish genuine period examples from modern lightweight reproductions.

Urns are commonly placed in pairs flanking doorways, steps, or garden pathways to create visual balance and structure. Indoors, they are used as architectural focal points in conservatories or hallways, often displayed unplanted to highlight their patinated surface.

Maintenance involves brushing away loose debris and applying microcrystalline wax or linseed oil to stabilise existing surface rust while preserving natural patina. Ensuring drainage holes remain clear prevents trapped water from freezing and cracking the cast iron.
