Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Cast iron garden urns gained widespread popularity during the nineteenth century, particularly in Victorian Britain. Inspired by classical Greco-Roman designs such as Medici and Borghese vases, industrial foundries mass-produced these urns as durable, ornate architectural statements for grand estate gardens and public parks.

Traditional urns were cast in molten iron poured into multi-piece sand moulds. This process allowed craftspeople to replicate intricate classical relief work, including gadrooning, acanthus leaves, and egg-and-dart borders, producing heavy, weather-resistant vessels suitable for permanent outdoor placement.

Authentic period pieces display distinct casting seam lines from traditional sand moulds, substantial weight, and natural surface patination or layered paint flaking over time. Modern reproductions often show lighter weight, uniform smooth finishes, or machine-stamped details rather than crisp cast moulding.

Cast iron urns are commonly positioned in symmetrical pairs flanking entranceways, steps, or garden pathways to establish focal points. Indoors or in sunrooms, they can be styled on low pedestals or hearths as decorative vessels holding architectural foliage or dried botanicals.

Cast iron develops a protective surface oxidisation naturally; however, applying clear microcrystalline wax or linseed oil helps arrest excessive corrosion. To prevent frost damage during winter, ensure drainage holes at the base remain clear of compacted soil and debris.
