Quchan Kurdish rugs originate from the Khorasan province in north-eastern Persia, hand-woven by Kurdish tribal weavers. They display geometric diamond patterns, wool pile construction, and colour tones such as deep red, navy blue, and terracotta.

Traditional Kurdish rugs feature hand-spun local sheep wool for both the pile and the warp and weft foundation. The wool is coloured using plant and mineral dyes, resulting in colour consistency and long-term durability.

Authentic pieces display hand-knotted knotting on a soft wool foundation, often resulting in slightly irregular selvages and end borders. The back of the rug displays distinct knot structure identical to the front design, alongside natural colour variations known as abrash.
