Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Paste jewellery refers to leaded glass cut and polished to imitate natural gemstones, particularly diamonds. Originating in the eighteenth century and widely produced throughout the Victorian era, high-quality paste was crafted with foil backings to maximize light refraction and lustre.

These pieces were typically crafted using sterling silver or silver-topped gold settings to hold the glass stones. The paste stones were hand-cut and individually set, often backed with silver or copper foil within closed-back settings to enhance brilliance.

Authentic nineteenth-century paste features hand-cut facets that display subtle irregularities rather than machine precision. Settings are frequently closed at the back, and over time, moisture may cause the internal metallic foil to darken or oxidise slightly.

Brooches can be worn traditionally on coat lapels, collared shirts, or velvet ribbons as chokers. For interior display, antique jewellery is frequently presented inside velvet-lined shadow boxes or framed jewellery tray arrangements.

Because paste jewellery often features closed-back settings with foil underneath, it should never be submerged in water or liquid cleaner. Clean silver surfaces gently with a dry silver polishing cloth, and store the item in a dry, airtight environment to prevent tarnishing and foil moisture damage.
