Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Popularised during the late nineteenth century, naturalistic motifs such as lizards, salamanders, and insects became highly fashionable design elements. Paste, a high-lead cut glass crafted to simulate precious gemstones, was frequently set in silver to create intricate animal-themed brooches.

Victorian paste brooches were crafted from silver or silver-topped metal settings housing hand-cut, leaded glass stones known as paste. Metallic foil backings were frequently placed beneath the stones within closed settings to enhance brilliance and colour saturation.

Authentic pieces typically feature closed-back or foil-backed settings, hand-cut facet irregularities, tiny black dots painted on the culets to simulate depth, and period-appropriate long pin stems with simple C-clasps.

While traditionally worn as personal attire, antique brooches can be styled decoratively within a home by mounting them inside velvet-lined shadow boxes, displaying them under glass cloches, or pinning them to decorative textile wall hangings.

Paste stones must never be submerged in water or cleaned with liquid solutions, as moisture damages the delicate underlying metal foil. Clean gently using a dry microfibre cloth and store in a low-humidity environment.
