Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A salon suite typically consists of a settee and matching armchairs designed for formal reception rooms or parlours during the late Victorian and Edwardian eras. These suites were crafted for entertaining guests, featuring detailed upholstery, compact proportions, and decorative wooden legs.

Traditional salon suites featured solid hardwood frames, such as walnut, mahogany, or rosewood, combined with webbed seats and coil springs. Upholstery frequently utilised woven damask, brocade, or velvet fabrics, secured over horsehair or fibre padding.

Authentic suites often feature hand-turned wooden legs fitted with brass or ceramic castors, hand-stitched upholstery, and original coil spring construction underneath. Examining the underside for hand-tacked webbing and period joinery like mortise and tenon joints helps confirm age.

A salon suite can serve as a focal point in a modern living room or wide hallway by balancing ornate floral upholstery with neutral walls and minimalist accent lighting. Placing the pieces together creates a structured conversation zone, while separating the armchairs into different rooms adds subtle vintage character throughout a home.

Regular gentle vacuuming with a soft brush attachment prevents dust accumulation within buttoned tufting and deep fabric folds. Professional dry cleaning is recommended for delicate damask or brocade fabrics, and wooden legs should be conditioned periodically with natural beeswax.
