Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Classical garden urns typically draw inspiration from Greco-Roman amphorae and campana urns, featuring gadrooned lower bodies, fluted pedestals, flared rims, and side handles. Popularised during the nineteenth century, these planters often sit on matching square or rectangular plinths to provide height and balance in architectural garden schemes.

Heavy-grade cast iron was the predominant material during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries due to its durability and ability to capture intricate relief moulding. The pieces were cast in sections using sand moulds, fastened internally with iron bolts, and finished with protective paint coatings.

Authentic pieces exhibit visible casting seams, substantial weight, and natural, uneven surface oxidisation beneath layers of flaking paint. Mould details on original castings remain crisp, while modern reproductions often display softer edges, lighter weight, and uniform artificial distress.

Position the urn as a focal structural element in entrance hallways, conservatories, or beside hearths. Interior designers frequently leave the interior unplanted to accentuate the silhouette, or style it with dried branches and moss for texture.

To preserve the original patina, sweep away loose debris with a soft brush and avoid harsh chemical cleaners. If placed outdoors in freezing temperatures, ensure internal drainage holes remain clear of soil buildup to prevent trapped water from expanding and cracking the cast metal.
