How were travel trunks used originally?

Travel trunks were packed with uniforms, personal effects, and provisions for long voyages by sea, rail, or coach. They protected belongings from harsh weather and rough handling during transit. Officers, explorers, and wealthy passengers relied on these chests to keep their belongings organised and secure while moving between distant locations.

How do I care for a wooden trunk?

Keep the wood nourished with appropriate wax and avoid placing the trunk near direct heat sources that might cause timber to split. Dust the brass and iron fittings gently to maintain their patinated finish. Allow the natural grain and age marks to show, as these details form part of the object's history and character.

Can I use a travel trunk as a coffee table?

These chests make practical coffee tables because their flat tops provide surface space while the interior offers hidden storage for blankets or books. Ensure the lid is stable and level before placing items on top. Their robust construction easily supports daily domestic use in a living room.
