How do I choose the right size?

Consider the proportions of your bedroom alongside the physical dimensions listed for each double, king, or single frame. Larger formats often require substantial clearance to showcase their curved footboards properly. Take exact measurements of your available floor space and mattress requirements before committing to a specific antique bed frame.

Are these beds easy to assemble?

Most antique French bed frames utilise traditional side rail bolt systems that require basic hand tools for secure assembly. Patience is necessary when aligning heavy wooden components. Enlisting a helper ensures the large headboards and footboards remain stable whilst you tighten the structural fixings.

How do I care for the upholstery?

Regular gentle vacuuming with a soft brush attachment removes surface dust from fabric, velvet, or textile surfaces. Avoid placing the frame in direct sunlight to protect the textile colours. Professional specialist cleaning is recommended for antique fabrics to preserve the integrity of the original or newly applied materials.

How do I identify the period?

Examine the timber species, carving depth, and hardware construction methods to establish whether a piece belongs to the Edwardian era or earlier decades. Stylistic markers often echo Louis XV or Louis XVI revivals popular around 1890 to 1930. Compare the painted finishes and joinery marks against documented examples from specific manufacturing periods to narrow down the date.
