How do I choose the right size cabinet?

Measure your available floor space and ceiling height carefully before selecting a wardrobe, tallboy, or chest of drawers. Consider the swing of doors and the depth required to pull out drawers fully within your bedroom layout. Matching the scale of the furniture to the proportions of your room ensures the piece provides ample storage without overwhelming the living space.

What is the difference between a tallboy and a chest?

A standard chest of drawers sits at a lower height, offering a surface on top for lamps or display items. A tallboy builds upward, stacking more drawer capacity into a narrower footprint to save floor space. Both forms utilise timber construction, but tallboys suit smaller rooms where vertical storage capacity is a priority.

Can I use a linen press as a wardrobe?

Many linen presses feature upper sections with removable shelves or hanging rails inserted later, allowing them to function effectively as wardrobes. Original sliding trays remain useful for folded garments and bedding storage. Checking the internal depth of the upper cabinet helps determine whether standard clothes hangers will fit inside.

How do I care for antique wood finishes?

Maintain polished mahogany, walnut, or oak surfaces by dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth and avoiding direct sunlight. Apply a quality natural wax periodically to nourish the wood and protect the historical finish from drying out. Keep wooden cabinets away from direct heat sources and dramatic humidity changes to prevent the timber from warping.
