How do I identify genuine pieces?

Examine the timber veneers, construction methods, and overall geometric proportions typical of the interwar period. Look for maker stamps or labels on the underside or inside of drawers. Compare the specific hardware, such as brass details and leather upholsterying styles, against documented examples from the era to confirm authenticity.

How were these suites used originally?

Dining suites served formal household meals, while bedroom suites provided coordinated storage and dressing spaces for domestic interiors. Lounge suites offered central seating for entertaining guests in urban and suburban homes. Smaller items like nests of tables served practical functions for tea and hospitality within the main reception rooms.

How do I care for timber surfaces?

Maintain polished wood finishes by keeping them away from direct sunlight and excessive moisture fluctuations. Apply appropriate wax polishes sparingly to nourish delicate veneers like burr walnut and maple. Protect glass inserts and leather upholstery using recommended specialist cleaners designed for vintage materials.
