Where should a centre table go?

These tables are designed to stand free in the middle of a room rather than pushed against a wall. They function well beneath a central ceiling light or in an entrance hallway. Because they can be viewed from all sides, placing them centrally allows the circular top and pedestal base to be appreciated fully from any angle.

Are marble tops original?

Many nineteenth-century French gueridons retain their original inset marble slabs, which were cut specifically to fit the wooden rim. Original stones typically show appropriate surface wear and match the exact rebate of the table. Replacement marble is occasionally fitted if an old stone was broken, though period pieces usually display uniform ageing between the stone and the timber base.

How do I care for timber and marble?

Wood surfaces benefit from occasional application of traditional wax to nourish the grain and protect the polish. Avoid placing wet items directly onto timber or unsealed stone. Marble can be cleaned with a damp cloth and mild soap, keeping harsh acids away from the polished surface to prevent staining.

What is the difference between an occasional table and a gueridon?

A gueridon is a specific French form of round table supported by a single central pillar, frequently topped with marble. Occasional tables encompass a broader range of shapes and structural formats. While all gueridons function as occasional tables for holding small objects, not every occasional table shares the central pedestal design.
