Are these chairs comfortable for daily dining?

The supportive upright backs and padded platforms offer a firm, upright posture suited for prolonged sitting at the dining table. Because the upholstered pads lift out easily, refreshing the internal padding or changing the fabric to match a room scheme requires minimal effort.

How do I distinguish eighteenth century originals from revival pieces?

Original pieces display authentic timber shrinkage, hand cut joinery marks, and patination accumulated across centuries of use. Revival copies from the Victorian and Edwardian periods often show machine tooling or different construction tolerances. Examining the underside of the drop in seat frame reveals tool marks and timber colour that help establish the true period of manufacture.

Can I mix armchairs with side chairs?

Pairing carver armchairs at the head of the table with matching side chairs along the sides follows traditional dining room arrangements. The shared mahogany frames and consistent style motifs create a unified look across the entire set. When combining pieces from different groups, matching the timber tone and leg style maintains visual balance.

What maintenance do mahogany frames require?

Regular dusting with a soft cloth protects the polished wood surface from accumulating grit that can dull the finish over time. Periodic application of quality wax preserves the moisture and depth of the timber. Keeping the chairs away from direct heat sources prevents the mahogany from drying out and guards against shrinkage in the frame joints.
