What is a mahogany desk on castors?

A mahogany desk on castors is a movable wooden writing table fitted with small wheels on the feet for repositioning. These pieces span the Georgian, Regency and Victorian eras, serving as functional workspaces in libraries and studies.

How do I identify a Regency period desk?

Regency desks display classical restraint through clean mahogany veneers, brass stringing and restrained mounts. They often incorporate reeded legs and brass castors reflecting early nineteenth-century design preferences.

Where were these tables used?

These tables served primarily in private libraries, studies and dressing rooms for correspondence and reading. The castors allowed staff or owners to shift the furniture near light sources or fireplaces.

How do I care for leather desk inserts?

Leather writing surfaces require gentle dusting and occasional treatment with appropriate conservative leather dressings. Keep them away from direct sunlight and excessive moisture to prevent cracking.
