Where should I place a bureau plat?

A bureau plat is designed as a freestanding centre table rather than a piece pushed against a wall. This allows the finished back and ormolu mounts to be seen from all angles in a room. Position it in the middle of a study or library to appreciate the parquetry and leather writing surface fully.

How do I care for kingwood veneer?

Kingwood veneers respond best to stable room environments away from direct sunlight and radiators, which can dry out the timber and cause lifting. Regular gentle dusting preserves the natural lustre of the polished surface. Avoid liquid polishes and rely instead on micro-crystalline wax applied sparingly when the wood appears dry.

Are these tables suitable for daily writing use?

Many nineteenth-century library tables and bureau plats were built for practical service, featuring fitted drawers and durable leather writing surfaces. They function well for modern correspondence and study. Care should be taken with the leather top to avoid staining, and heavy impacts on ormolu mounts should be prevented.
