How do I install antique wall lights?

Most antique wall lights mount to standard electrical wall boxes using an internal crossbar or bracket. Ensure the wiring has been updated to meet current safety standards before mounting. Professional installation by an electrician is recommended to secure heavy bronze fixtures safely to wall studs.

Are these wired for electricity?

Many circulating pieces arrive rewired and ready for installation with standard electrical components. Original candle cups are typically adapted to conceal modern lamp holders. Unconverted examples retain their original sockets or require professional conversion if electrical illumination is desired.

How do I clean gilded bronze?

Dust the metal gently using a soft, dry brush or microfibre cloth to remove surface particles. Avoid chemical polishes or abrasive cleaners, which strip the delicate gold layer. Crystal components can be cleaned separately with mild soapy water and dried thoroughly before reattachment.

What is the difference between ormolu and brass?

Ormolu consists of a bronze substrate treated with a gold finish, producing a deep, luminous golden tone. Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc that exhibits a brighter, yellower metallic colour without necessarily possessing a gold layer. Antique ormolu typically displays heavier casting and finer hand-chasing than standard brass hardware.
