How do I identify Georgian revival glass?

Georgian revival glass shows the heavy lead weight, deep diamond cutting, and resonant ring typical of late nineteenth and early twentieth-century manufacturing rather than eighteenth-century production methods. Examine the sharpness of the facets and the composition of the glass body to separate these revival pieces from genuine Georgian originals.

Are these cut glass items safe for daily use?

Most cut glass tablewares from this period are robust lead crystal designed for practical service on the dining table or sideboard. Wash them by hand in warm water rather than using a dishwasher to protect the surface polish and prevent thermal shock.

What is the difference between Georgian and its revival?

Genuine Georgian items were produced between seventeen fourteen and eighteen thirty, reflecting the actual tastes of the Georgian reigns. Revival pieces reproduce these classical proportions and cutting styles using later Victorian and Edwardian manufacturing techniques. Secondary indicators like modern screw threads, machine-sawn timber, or cleaner glass chemistry usually point to the later revival period.

How should I clean antique mirrors and glass?

Use a soft microfiber cloth and a mild, ammonia-free glass cleaner sprayed sparingly onto the cloth rather than directly onto the glass surface. This prevents moisture from seeping behind the silvering or damaging the wooden frame. Keep giltwood and gesso frames away from direct sunlight and damp environments to preserve the delicate gold leaf and plaster.
