How do I choose the right size chandelier?

Consider the floor area and ceiling height of your room to ensure the fixture balances the space without overwhelming it. Larger multi-tier designs require substantial vertical clearance to hang correctly. Measure the width of your room and add those dimensions in feet to determine an appropriate diameter in inches for the fixture.

Are these lights suitable for modern wiring?

Period fixtures generally require professional rewiring to meet contemporary safety standards and accommodate standard lamp bases. Electricians can adapt internal channels safely without altering the exterior appearance. Consult a qualified specialist to check the structural load-bearing capacity of your ceiling before hanging heavy bronze or crystal fixtures.

How should I clean crystal chandeliers?

Remove dust regularly using a soft feather duster or specialised long-handled cleaning wand designed for delicate glass components. For deeper cleaning, apply a dedicated non-drip crystal cleaner directly onto the drops while placing towels beneath to catch drips. Avoid using harsh chemical sprays that might damage the gilt surfaces or degrade the vintage metal finishes supporting the glass.

What is the difference between a lantern and a chandelier?

Chandeliers feature open arrays of arms designed to hold multiple exposed candles or bulbs radiating outward from a central axis. Lanterns are enclosed within a framed glass case, protecting the internal light source from drafts. Lanterns typically hang closer to the ceiling and work well in corridors or smaller rooms where protruding arms would obstruct movement.
