How do I date a halo ring?

Dating relies on examining the cut of the diamonds, the choice of metal, and the overall structural style. Old mine cut diamonds and yellow gold mounts typically point to Victorian or Edwardian origins. Platinum use, geometric symmetry, and crisp millegrain work often indicate an Art Deco origin. Hallmarks and assay stamps provide further chronological markers when present.

Are these rings suitable for daily wear?

Many buyers wear these pieces daily, particularly those set in durable metals like platinum or 18ct gold. Consideration should be given to the hardness of softer central gems like opals or pearls. Regular inspection of the settings helps ensure the tiny halo stones remain secure in their original mounts over time.

What is the difference between a cluster and a halo?

While both terms describe multiple stones grouped together, a halo specifically designates a distinct border framing a dominant central gem. A cluster often distributes visual weight more evenly among stones of similar size. In practice, many antique dealers use the terms interchangeably for floral, daisy, and multi-stone configurations.
