Where should I place an oak cabinet at home?

These sturdy storage pieces suit large hallways, dining rooms, and spacious kitchens where their generous proportions and deep timber tones anchor the room. Keep them away from direct heat sources and strong sunlight to protect the historic wax finishes and prevent the aged oak panels from splitting.

How do I clean an antique oak surface?

Dust the timber regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply a traditional beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year to nourish the dry grain. Avoid modern silicone sprays or wet cloths, which can penetrate open oak pores and permanently damage the historic patinated surface.

Georgian cabinets often display simpler, heavier structural lines with hand-cut dovetails and pegged joinery designed for practical rural estate use. Victorian iterations frequently introduce heavier carved ornament, machine-sawn elements, and more complex internal configurations suited to changing domestic habits.
