What periods do these pieces come from?

The artworks span multiple centuries, with significant representation from the seventeenth, eighteenth, and nineteenth centuries. Makers and artists from these distinct periods applied varied regional techniques to pastoral and historical subjects. Twentieth-century interpretations also appear alongside the older works, showing how later artists continued to engage with traditional motifs and classical landscape compositions.

How do I care for antique oil paintings?

Keep oil paintings away from direct sunlight and sources of extreme heat or humidity to prevent the canvas from sagging and the paint from cracking. Gentle dusting with a soft, dry brush is sufficient for routine maintenance. Avoid using water or chemical cleaners on the painted surface. If conservation work is required, consult a professional restorer.

What is the difference between an oil painting and a print?

An oil painting is a unique, hand-painted work created by applying pigment suspended in oil onto canvas, wood, or paper. Each brushstroke is singular to the artist's hand. Prints and engravings are multiple impressions pulled from a prepared plate or block, reproducing a composition for broader distribution while retaining graphic detail.

How do I hang a large framed tapestry?

Large tapestries require even weight distribution across a sturdy wall hanging system, such as a concealed wooden batten or specialised mounting clips attached to the textile's backing. Ensure the wall structure can support the total weight. Position the textile away from direct sunlight to protect the coloured threads from fading over time.
