Are these cupboards delivered fully assembled?

Most period wardrobes and large cupboards arrive as substantial, heavy structures constructed from solid oak. Some regional armoires and modular suites incorporate knock-down construction for easier transport. Buyers should verify doorway dimensions and ceiling heights before delivery, as many historical wardrobes do not dismantle easily. Professional furniture carriers are recommended for handling heavy timber pieces.

How do I care for antique oak furniture?

Maintain solid oak surfaces by dusting with a dry cloth and occasionally applying traditional beeswax to nourish the timber. Avoid placing furniture near direct heat sources or strong sunlight to prevent splitting. Consistent indoor humidity protects both the wood and any mirrored glass or metal hardware. Gentle care preserves the original surface patination built up over generations.

What is the difference between an armoire and a wardrobe?

Historically, an armoire refers to a French freestanding cupboard with doors enclosing shelves or hanging space, often featuring provincial carved details. A wardrobe is the standard British equivalent developed for full-length clothing storage. Both terms describe large bedroom storage furniture, though French armoires frequently display lighter bleached finishes or distinct regional pediment designs.
