How do I clean a gilt frame?

Are these paintings on canvas or panel?

The selection includes works executed on stretched canvas as well as solid wood panels and boards. Each support reflects the standard practices of its specific period and regional school of painting.

How do I date the frame?

Frames are dated by examining the carving style, the composition of the gesso layer, and the construction methods used at the corners. Many frames are original to their paintings, though older canvases were frequently rehoused in later decorative surrounds.

Where should I hang an oil painting?
