How do I clean gilt bronze?

Dust gently with a soft dry cloth to protect the delicate gold surface. Avoid chemical polishes that strip away gilding. Water and harsh detergents can damage underlying bronze layers. Professional conservation is advised for heavily tarnished pieces.

Can these be wired for electricity?

Many historical wall lights are adapted for modern electric bulbs by running wire through the hollow arms. A qualified electrician should handle the conversion to preserve the original metalwork. Keep in mind that some collectors prefer to retain them strictly for wax candles. Check the backplate and arm channels before planning any electrical installation.

How do I hang heavy wall lights?

Secure mounting requires fixing directly into wall studs or using heavy-duty structural wall anchors. Bronze and ormolu fixtures carry substantial weight that standard plaster plugs cannot support. Distribute the load evenly across the backplate mounting holes. Professional installation ensures the fixture stays firmly against the wall surface.

Are these pieces French?

A large proportion of the surviving candelabra wall lights originate from French workshops spanning the nineteenth century. Makers applied distinct styles such as Rococo Revival, Neoclassical, and Second Empire. Italian and English examples also appear among the selections, often featuring regional motifs like cherubs or mermaids. Stylistic details help distinguish the origin of each piece.
