How do I use a drinks trolley today?

These pieces function effectively as mobile home bars, holding bottles, glassware, and cocktail accessories within easy reach during social events. They also serve static roles as bedside tables or display surfaces for decorative objects when not in transit. Their mobility permits shifting refreshments between rooms to suit the flow of guests. The tiered shelving provides practical organisation for tall bottles below and delicate glassware above.

Were these trolleys English or French?

Production occurred across both nations, with distinct regional characteristics visible in the surviving examples. English workshops favoured figured walnut and practical two-tier or circular formats. French makers leaned towards lavish veneers like burr amboyna, bold chrome structures, and intricate metamorphic mechanisms. Both traditions catered to the rising popularity of cocktail culture during the interwar period.

What is a metamorphic drinks trolley?

A metamorphic trolley incorporates hidden hinges, levers, or pop-up actions that alter the configuration of the furniture. These mechanisms elevate bottle compartments or expand surface areas when preparing drinks. Such engineering represents the innovative spirit of 1930s design, combining entertainment utility with mechanical cleverness. They require careful handling to preserve the internal linkages.

How do I clean chrome and glass?

Chrome components benefit from gentle wiping with a soft cloth to remove dust and maintain their reflective shine without scratching the metal plating. Glass and mirrored shelves require standard glass cleaner applied to a cloth rather than sprayed directly near wooden frames. Avoiding abrasive pads protects both the metal finishes and the vintage glass surfaces from permanent damage. Regular maintenance keeps the reflective surfaces bright and clear.
