How do I seat twenty people?

Look for multi-pillar formats, such as triple or multi-pedestal tables spanning twelve to fifteen feet with original leaves. Ensure the room dimensions allow clearance for chairs around the entire perimeter once fully extended.

Can I adjust the length?

Many period examples utilise drop-in leaves or winding mechanisms designed to alter the seating capacity. Check whether the table includes its original matching leaves to maintain consistent timber grain and colour.

Which timber is best?

Mahogany, particularly Cuban or flame varieties, provides exceptional durability and a rich, dark surface for professional settings. Walnut and burr walnut offer lighter, highly figured alternatives popular in Victorian and revival pieces.

How do I identify Regency style?

Regency pieces often feature clean lines, restrained brass inlay, and elegant pedestal bases supported by reeded legs. This early nineteenth-century aesthetic prioritises classical proportion over heavy ornamentation.
