Wild Rose pattern Blue & White Transfer Print large Meat Plate, circa 1850. This good example still retains its very strong dark blue tone and is in excellent condition showing just one chip to the rear and slight rim glaze wear only. No cracks or restoration. This large example is 42.5cm long by 35cm wide and 4.5cm deep. This would look fine mounted on a wall or dresser. Price £95.00

Wild Rose is a classic 19th-century blue and white transfer-printed pottery design featuring a central rural landscape framed by a wide border of stylised wild roses and foliage. Produced extensively in Britain during the Victorian era, it remains a traditional example of underglaze blue printed earthenware.

These pieces were crafted from earthenware and decorated using a copper-plate engraving technique where tissue paper was used to transfer cobalt oxide ink onto unglazed ceramic before a final clear glaze was applied and fired.

Authentic 1850s transferware often features minor print alignment variations, fine stippling in the engraving, stilt marks on the underside from kiln firing, and soft crazing under the glaze.
