Elmgarden has dated this piece to the 1900s.
This useful piece is known as a Monks Bench, it is in fact a settle with storage compartment inside the seat and the back of the bench can be pulled over, it then rests on the on the top of the arms making a vey useful hall table with an 1” thick table top

The bottom of the settle has a little carved decoration to the front, there is an shrinkage crack in the side by the open heart, this has no movement and has probably been there since the piece was made
A lovey piece in good sound condition, it is 29” high as a table 36” wide and 19” deep
