We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian French Rococo style clocks are recognised by their elaborate openwork ornamentation, floral scrolls, and classical motifs such as cherubs or putti. Originating in 18th-century France and revived during the 19th century, these timepieces emphasise asymmetry, gilded finishes, and sculptural decorative elements.

Traditional French gilded mantel clocks were primarily constructed using cast brass or bronze, often finished with fire-gilding or electroplating techniques known as ormolu. Clock dials were typically made from enamel, painted porcelain, or brass, encased behind protective glass bezels.

Authentic pieces often display maker marks, serial numbers, or foundry stamps on the rear movement casing or base. Look for hand-chased metalwork, genuine surface patina, and mechanical pendulum or carriage clock movements rather than modern quartz components.

A gilded clock creates a focal point when placed atop a minimalist fireplace mantelpiece, marble console, or dark wood sideboard. Balancing the elaborate metallic details against neutral backdrops or textured stone walls highlights its sculptural silhouette.

Gilded surfaces should be dusted regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth to prevent dust accumulation. Chemical cleaners, abrasive polishes, and water should be avoided, as they can strip delicate gold gilding and cause metal oxidisation.
