N Wilson Antiques Clocks has dated this French Ormolu Mantel Clock to the Victorian era.
The case is superbly detailed, the top is finished with a campana urn with detachable cover and pineapple finial and goat's head handles to the sides. As you move down the case there are lovely detailed acanthas leaves and detailing and the clock is raise on beautifully detailed delicate feet. Below the dial is the porcelain panel is adorned with with a small group of ladies and gentlemen and to the base is a further adorned with finely painted flowers both of which are framed in in gilt and blue borders.
The eight-day movement strikes the hours and once at half past on a bell, the movement inscribed Le Roy et Fils a Paris and numbered 780. The pendulum is also numbered 780 as is the case showing the piece to be fully originally.
Le Roy et fils was a highly renowned French company making clocks and watches. The company was founded in 1785 by Basile Charles le Roy (1765–1839), who later passed it on to his son, Charles-Louis Le Roy and this prestigious clock-making firm was active in France from the late 18th Century onwards. In 1828, his son Charles-Louis joined the company, which changed its name to Le Roy & Fils. One of the founders of the Swiss company Patek Phillipe started out in this company.
Le Roy et Fils became successful and survived the turmoils of the French Revolution. It became clockmaker to Napoleon I, his sister Princess Pauline, Mme Mere and the King of Westphalia. After the restoration of the Bourbon monarchy, it was a warrant holder for the Duke of Bourbon.
A shop was opened in London at 211-Regent Street in London and taking part in most of the important international exhibitions, winning many prize medals. Named Watchmaker to the Queen of England and to the Emperor of Brazil, he won many honours and in 1883 left the firm to his son Georges Desfontaines. Le Roy and Fils was a British Royal Warrant holder to Queen Victoria, and was the only foreign clockmaker that held a British royal warrant.

CONDITION: The gilt bronze is in superb antique condition just odd age related marks. The porcelain dial and panels are in lovely condition just odd marks.
