Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A four-glass clock is a type of mantel or table timepiece featuring four glass panels set into a metal frame, allowing full visibility of the internal movement and pendulum from all sides. Popularised in France during the mid-to-late 19th century, these clocks combined precision horology with decorative metal craftsmanship.

These timepieces were typically constructed using cast brass or gilded bronze for the casing, fitted with thick bevelled glass panels. The dials were often made of hand-painted enamel, sometimes accented with champleve enamel borders, mercury pendulums, and decorative paste stones.

Authentic 19th-century French mantel clocks usually feature stamped movement makers marks on the back plate, such as those by Samuel Marti or Japy Freres, along with matching serial numbers. Additional indicators include hand-painted enamel dials, heavy brass construction, and finely bevelled glass plates rather than thin modern glass.

An antique brass clock serves as a focal point when placed atop a stone fireplace mantelpiece, a dark wood sideboard, or a styled bookshelf. Pairing it with minimal glass objects or contemporary framed artwork creates a balanced contrast between historic horology and modern design.

Keep the clock free from dust by gently wiping the exterior brass and glass panels with a soft microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners that can remove lacquer or damage enamel trim. The mechanical movement should be routinely inspected and lubricated by a professional horologist every three to five years.
