Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the late 19th century, Aesthetic Movement furniture prioritised craft, beauty, and simplified forms over heavy Victorian ornamentation. Pieces often feature natural timber grain, clean geometric lines, understated turned hardware, and refined proportions.

Victorian walnut chests were predominantly constructed with solid walnut frame elements and high-grade veneers over pine or oak carcases. Drawers were traditionally assembled with hand-cut dovetail joints, oak or pine drawer linings, and sturdy wooden plinth bases.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-finished joinery, hand-cut drawer dovetails, original brass or turned wooden hardware, and natural timber oxidisation. Look for understated decorative touches, such as clean chamfered edges and brass escutcheons, typical of the late 1800s.

A pair of narrow walnut chests functions exceptionally well as flanking bedside tables or as symmetrical alcove storage in a living room. Balance the warm timber tones by pairing them with soft linen textiles, contemporary artwork, or minimalist neutral walls.

Keep walnut furniture away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent uneven fading or timber shrinkage. Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a quality natural beeswax polish once or twice a year to maintain the luster of the patina.
