Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A serpentine chest of drawers is a storage cabinet featuring a undulating front surface shaped like a gentle S curve, where the centre swells outward and the sides recede inward. This silhouette emerged in 18th-century European cabinet-making to add visual rhythm and depth to wooden furniture.

High-grade hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, and kingwood are typically used for the primary exterior veneers and solid framework. Secondary woods like pine or oak form the internal drawer linings, while cast brass is utilized for keyhole escutcheons and drop handles.

Examine the drawer construction for hand-cut dovetail joints, uneven hand-sawn markings on secondary timber, and natural shrinkage cracks along wide panels. Original brass hardware should show signs of hand-casting, slight irregularities, and age-appropriate patination around the fixing points.

Position the piece as an accent focus against a modern painted wall in an entryway or living room, balancing its rich wood grain with minimalist accessories. Pair it with contemporary artwork above the top surface or a sleek modern lamp to create a juxtaposition between historic craftsmanship and modern design.

Apply a high-quality bees-wax polish sparingly once or twice a year to nourish the timber and maintain the lustrous patina. Keep the piece away from direct sunlight, radiators, and extreme changes in humidity to prevent the veneer from lifting or cracking.
