Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Imari porcelain refers to Japanese export ceramics produced in the Arita area of Hizen province and shipped via the port of Imari. Characterised by vivid underglaze cobalt blue alongside overglaze iron red and gold gilding, it gained widespread popularity across Europe during the 17th and 18th centuries.

Imari bowls were crafted from fine kaolin clay fired at high temperatures to form durable white porcelain. Artisans applied underglaze cobalt blue decoration prior to the initial firing, subsequently adding detailed overglaze enamels in iron red and liquid gold accents before a final low-temperature kiln firing.

Authentic antique Imari ceramics feature a distinctive tri-colour palette of cobalt blue, brick red, and fine gilding, often arranged in intricate floral panels or medallion patterns. Examining the unglazed foot rim reveals characteristic wear, subtle glaze shrinkage, and occasional pinholes or kiln spur marks from historical production.

Position an Imari bowl as a central decorative accent on a dark wood sideboard, console table, or coffee table to highlight its patterned exterior. Pairing the piece with neutral backdrops or contemporary minimalist accessories allows the vibrant cobalt and terracotta tones to serve as a visual anchor.

Clean the surface by hand washing with warm water and a mild liquid soap using a non-abrasive soft cloth. Avoid using dishwashers, harsh chemicals, or sudden temperature changes, as these will erode the delicate overglaze enamelling and gold leaf detailing over time.
