Oak Settle C.1740

18th century
Description

Early 18th.c. oak settle c.1740. Simple pegged construction in solid oak throughout. Slightly sloping backrest with four flat panels between chamfered mullions, with rounded tops to the rear stiles. Shaped arms on tapering and chamfered front stiles. A board seat over an open base with straight apron, vertical supports to the front and low stretchers to the front and sides, nicely shaped at the front by years of wear. Very good condition with some previous repairs an restorations. Solid and sturdy and excellent colour. Cleaned and waxed in our workshops.

This settle was on display for many years at Aberconwy House, the medieval merchant's house in Conwy run by the National Trust.
