Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian birdcage tilt-top table is an 18th-century tea or occasional table featuring a central pedestal base and a hinged top. The birdcage mechanism consists of two square wooden blocks connected by short pillars, enabling the top surface to both rotate 360 degrees and tilt vertically for storage.

These tables were primarily constructed from solid dense mahogany imported from the West Indies. The central pillar was turned on a lathe, while the tripod legs were hand-shaped using dovetail joints to attach securely to the base column.

Authentic period examples feature hand-planed undersides, hand-carved dovetail joins where legs meet the pedestal, original brass or iron spring-latches, and signs of natural timber shrinkage that result in slightly oval top dimensions over centuries.

Position the table with its top tilted vertically against a wall or in a room corner to display the figured mahogany wood grain as decorative wall art. Alternatively, lock the table top horizontally to function as a side table for table lamps and decorative objects.

Maintain mahogany by dusting regularly with a dry, lint-free cloth and applying beeswax polish once or twice a year in the direction of the wood grain. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and strong sunlight to prevent timber cracking and fading.
