Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A tilt-top tripod table is an occasional table featuring a circular surface attached to a central turned column that rests on three splayed legs. The top is fitted with a catch mechanism, allowing it to pivot vertically into a space-saving position when not in use.

During the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, cabinetmakers constructed tripod tables using dense hardwoods such as mahogany, oak, and walnut. Iron or brass latches were installed underneath the tabletop to secure the pivoting block.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut joinery, irregular turned details on the central column, and original brass snap latches beneath the top. Look for natural shrinkage across the timber grain and wear patterns consistent with age along the feet.

These versatile pieces function well as side tables beside armchairs or sofas. When the top is tilted upright, the surface displays the timber grain, allowing the piece to serve as a decorative feature in alcoves or corners.

Keep mahogany furniture away from direct radiator heat and damp conditions to prevent timber warping or cracking. Dust with a soft microfibre cloth and apply beeswax once or twice a year to preserve the natural finish.
