It is supported on unusual and elegant cabriole legs of squared form which terminate in pretty shaped pad feet.

When supplies of European walnut ran out early in the 18th century, the call went out to the "provinces" (i.e. North America) to supply the timber ~ hence the name "Virginia" walnut ~ redder in colour than its European relative.
