Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The Adam Revival style draws directly from the late 18th-century Neoclassical designs of architect Robert Adam. It is defined by classical architectural symmetry, delicate moulding, urn motifs, guilloche borders, and refined proportions inspired by ancient Roman and Greek antiquities.

Giltwood mirrors from this era were typically constructed with a carved wooden core covered in layers of gesso plaster. Hand-applied gold leaf was then laid onto the frame using water gilding techniques before being burnished, framing a silvered or mercury glass mirror plate.

Authentic period pieces exhibit signs of natural age, including fine surface cracking (craquelure) in the gesso, gentle wear on raised gilding revealing the reddish clay bole underneath, hand-cut timber backboards, and slight oxidisation or dark spotting on the mirror glass.

A large Neoclassical mirror functions effectively as an architectural focal point above a fireplace mantelpiece or console table. Placing it opposite windows maximizes natural light distribution and enhances perceived visual space in both traditional and contemporary room schemes.

Dust the frame regularly using a soft, dry feather duster or gentle artists brush. Avoid applying water, commercial polish, or chemical liquid cleaners to the gilding, as moisture will dissolve the historic gesso glue and strip the gold leaf.
