Art Deco Oak & Marquetry Bedroom Suite Attributed To Gaylayde, B Cohen & Sons

£1,900    $2,389    €2,281
A super three piece Art Deco quarter-sawn oak & marquetry bedroom suite attributed to ‘Gaylayde’ by B Cohen & Sons of London. Dating to c.1930 and of super quality it features intricate geometric inlaid bandings in mahogany, satinwood, ebony and ivorine and further large marquetry panels depicting bowls of fruit.

Comprising a two door wardrobe, dressing chest and side cabinet the wardrobe has a 17 7/8in (45.5cm) deep hanging space with a rail, hooks and shelf above. The dressing chest has the original bevelled glass mirror with inlaid supports and back gallery, and the cabinet also has the inlaid back gallery and has useful cupboard space below a long drawer. Each has green/black bakelite handles and stands on shaped bracket feet.

This stunning bedroom suite is in good condition having been sympathetically cleaned and polished using traditional methods, the wardrobe comes with a key (the lock is not working but we will ask our locksmith to fix it if possible) and has a dark mark in the grain at the top of right side, there is an odd replacement handle on one door of the cabinet.

B.Cohen & Sons Ltd.first exhibited their Gaylayde range at the London Furniture Exhibition in 1926, their beautiful geometric inlaid bandings are similar to those on furniture designed by Charles Ritcher for the Bath Cabinet Maker’s.
