Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Nineteenth-century French painted mirrors are characterised by carved timber frames finished with layers of gesso and paint, often featuring muted shades of cream, grey, or off-white with subtle distress to highlight the moulding.

Frames were typically constructed from solid hardwoods such as oak, beech, or pine, then coated with gesso plaster before applying painted or gilded finishes over silvered or mercury glass.

Authentic pieces feature signs of genuine age, including hand-cut joinery on the reverse timber backing boards, natural oxidation or foxing on the glass, and authentic wear patterns through painted layers.

A substantial rectangular mirror works well leaned against a focal wall in a hallway or mounted horizontally above a sideboard or fireplace mantel to reflect light and expand the sense of space.

Dust the frame regularly with a dry, soft brush and avoid liquid cleaners on the painted surface. Clean the glass sparingly using a damp microfibre cloth without allowing water to seep behind the frame edges.
