Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A fusee wall clock utilises a cone-shaped pulley driven by a chain or gut line to equalise the pull of the mainspring, ensuring accurate timekeeping as the spring unwinds. Common throughout the 18th and 19th centuries in Britain, these mechanical timepieces were frequently housed in octagonal or round wooden frames.

These clocks typically featured solid wood or veneered cases made of rosewood or mahogany, often embellished with cut-brass marquetry or floral inlay. The dials were usually painted sheet iron or enamel set within a brass bezel under a protective glass lens.

Authentic fusee clocks can be identified by the winding arbor location on the dial and the presence of a fusee cone and gut line or chain within the brass movement plates. Look for hand-cut brass gears, cast brass bezels with latch closures, and period-appropriate wood joinery on the case back.

Mount the clock on a narrow wall space, above a sideboard, or within a gallery wall to create a focal point. Combining dark timber and brass details with minimalist plaster finishes or neutral panelling highlights the mechanical craftsmanship.

Wind the movement regularly using the correct size key, taking care not to overtighten the mainspring. Keep the wooden case free of direct sunlight and moisture, dusting with a microfibre cloth and applying specialised beeswax sparingly.
