Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A drop-dial wall clock features a circular dial face mounted above an extended lower trunk housing the pendulum. The twin fusee mechanism uses spirally grooved cones to deliver constant force to the gear train, driving both the timekeeping and bell-striking functions.

These timepieces were commonly constructed using dense hardwoods like rosewood or mahogany, often ornamented with mother-of-pearl or brass marquetry inlays. Internal movements were fabricated from solid brass plates and gears, protected by a brass bezel and clear glass lens.

Authentic period examples feature hand-cut brass gearing, heavy cast bezels, and hand-painted or enamelled dials displaying Roman numerals. Winding arbors located on the dial face and a glass pendulum inspection window in the lower trunk are hallmark indicators of genuine period manufacture.

Mounting the clock on a modern neutral wall creates a clear contrast that highlights the detailed timber grain and shell inlay. Positioning the timepiece above a hall console table or integrating it into a gallery wall balances traditional horological craftsmanship with modern decorative design.

Mechanical horological movements require professional cleaning and re-oiling every five to seven years to reduce gear friction. The timber case should be placed away from direct heat sources and dusted gently with a microfibre cloth, applying beeswax sparingly to safeguard the original patina.
