Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A toilet swing mirror, historically referred to as a toilet glass, is a portable dressing mirror mounted between two vertical posts that permit the reflective panel to pivot or tilt. Popular throughout the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, these compact pieces were designed to rest atop dressing tables, vanity units, or chests of drawers.

Traditional toilet mirrors are primarily crafted from dense hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or rosewood, frequently incorporating decorative inlaid stringing or veneer borders. The original glass panels were silvered using historical mercury or silver nitrate methods, while the pivot hardware and finials were generally constructed from turned brass or timber.

Authentic nineteenth-century examples feature hand-turned upright supports, hand-cut joinery on the base, and brass tension fittings to secure the angle of the glass. The original mirror plate typically exhibits age-related foxing, desilvering, or gentle optical distortion characteristic of antique glass manufacturing.

Place the mirror on top of a modern bedroom dressing table, hallway console, or chest of drawers to serve as a functional accent piece. The rich timber tones contrast effectively against contemporary neutral walls, stone surfaces, or minimalist ceramics.

Dust the wooden frame regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish periodically to retain moisture in the timber. Avoid applying liquid glass cleaners directly to the mirror face, as moisture can seep behind the frame and damage the historical silvering or wood finish.
