Inlaid Edwardian Mahogany Occasional Table

1900 - 1920
For Sale by Limited Editions
Description

In tidy condition having had an earlier restoration this round occasional table is keenly priced. It has a little light fade as is pretty normal, unless just repolished of course, but that gives it a rather pleasing mellow appearance. It has a inlay around the top and it is strung down the legs as can be seen in the pictures. A useful little early 1900s table that will certainly not break the bank. We have waxed and buffed this table and it is now ready for its new home.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Edwardian occasional tables, produced between 1901 and 1910, are recognised for their lighter scale, graceful curves, and neoclassical revival elements compared to heavier Victorian furniture. They frequently incorporate fine timber inlays, delicate legs, and functional lower undertiers.

Cabinetmakers primarily used mahogany, satinwood, and rosewood during this era. Fine line inlay, stringing, and marquetry using contrasting timbers were standard decorative techniques applied to table surfaces and legs.

Authentic pieces feature machine-assisted yet hand-finished joinery, genuine timber crossbanding or stringing inlay, and balanced, slender proportions. The timber exhibits natural grain variation and original patina consistent with early twentieth-century age.

An occasional table serves as a functional accent beside a modern sofa or armchair to hold a table lamp or hot drink. Its refined proportions blend well with contemporary soft furnishings and neutral colour palettes.

Clean the surface with a soft, dry cotton cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to maintain the timber finish. Keep the piece away from direct sunlight and central heating sources to prevent wood movement or shrinkage.
