A small, elegant Edwardian mahogany double gate leg Sutherland table is in excellent antique condition. Although the top exhibits slight discolouration when unfolded, this minor issue can be easily concealed with a table runner and remains unnoticed when closed. Each leaf is supported by a tapering gateleg, allowing for independent or combined use. Crafted with solid construction, the table features a beautiful rich hue and exceptional graining, making it perfect for occasional use and space-saving when not in use due to its compact folded profile. Despite the typical imperfections of antique furniture, it remains robust, with a lustrous colour and patina, making it an ideal choice for small spaces and promising many more years of functionality.

A Sutherland table is a specific form of drop-leaf table originating in the mid-19th century, named after the Duchess of Sutherland. It features a narrow central top with deep side leaves supported by pivoting gate legs, designed to minimise footprint when folded.

Edwardian Sutherland tables were predominantly constructed from solid mahogany, walnut, or rosewood, often finished with French polish. They feature brass rule hinges, slender legs, and small brass or ceramic castors at the base.
