We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Sutherland table is a style of compact drop-leaf table introduced in the 19th century, named after the Duchess of Sutherland. Edwardian examples often feature slim proportions, turned supports, and decorative inlay work such as satinwood crossbanding.

Craftsmen during the Edwardian period frequently used dense mahogany as the primary wood, paired with satinwood or boxwood for decorative crossbanding and marquetry borders. The hinged leaves are supported by gateleg or pivoting bracket mechanisms.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit slender turned legs, period brass castors, and hand-cut joinery beneath the tabletop. The undersides often show natural timber age marks and period-appropriate screws or hinges.

Because the drop leaves collapse to an extremely narrow profile, this table style serves as an occasional side table beside a sofa or in a reading nook. Unfolded, it functions as a tea or display surface within modern or traditional living spaces.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry cloth and apply a beeswax polish along the grain annually. Keep the table away from direct sunlight, radiators, and moisture to prevent the veneer from lifting or cracking.
