Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Hepplewhite style furniture originates from the late 18th-century designs of George Hepplewhite, defined by light, balanced proportions and distinctive openwork backrests. Common back patterns include shield, oval, heart, and wheel shapes, frequently embellished with carved wheat ears, urns, or prince of Wales feathers.

Primary construction utilised solid mahogany, favoured for its fine grain, durability, and deep colour. Seats were constructed with solid timber frames, hand-tied springs or webbing, and upholstered in horsehair, wool damask, or silk fabrics.

Authentic construction features mortise and tenon joinery secured with wood pegs, hand-carved splats showing subtle variations, and straight tapered or spade feet. Examining the undersides reveals saw marks, hand-planed surfaces, and natural patination from age.

Hepplewhite chairs can be paired with contemporary minimalist dining tables to create an eclectic contrast. Re-upholstering the drop-in seats with crisp modern linen, textured boucle, or bold geometric fabrics refreshes traditional shapes for contemporary living.

Regular dusting with a soft microfiber cloth and periodic applications of beeswax polish maintain the timber patina. Keep mahogany away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent drying, joint loosening, and wood bleaching.
